Gmail inactive accounts will be deleted soon

gmail

Google announced that starting from November 2023, inactive Gmail accounts will be deleted. However, only accounts inactive for over two years will be affected. Users who have used Gmail or Google Photos in the last two years are safe as they will be considered active.

To prevent account deletion, users simply need to log in and perform any of the following actions to keep their accounts active and protect their uploaded data:

  • Read or send an email on Gmail
  • Use Google Drive
  • Watch a video on YouTube
  • Download an app from the Google Play Store

Google will notify users multiple times before deleting inactive accounts, starting with those that were created but never reused.

This decision aims to enhance security as old accounts are more vulnerable to compromise and may lack two-factor authentication for better security.

Google will inform affected users about this measure through multiple email notifications, so they can take necessary steps to keep their accounts active.

This move aligns with similar steps taken by other companies like Ubisoft to comply with European data and privacy laws. However, some accounts may be saved under specific conditions. Users should remain vigilant about notifications from Google regarding their inactive accounts to ensure the protection of their accounts and data.
